Already in 1990, Philip began martial arts training. Even as a child he was fascinated by the fighting skills from television and he also wanted to learn a martial art and was a member of the nearby Judo Club Erbach. There he studied and trained for many years the martial arts Judo and Ju Jutsu.
At the age of 13, he began to attend various courses and was thus the first time in contact with the Filipino Martial Arts. The rapid swirling sticks and machetes attracted him immediately under their spell and he supplemented his training by the Modern Arnis program of the DAV.
In 1998, he began - influenced by the UFC 1 and 2, to deal with the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In 1999 he became a pupil of Mario Stapel and Trained with him BJJ, Grappling, Muay Thai and MMA. Under his coaching, he was able to participate successfully in various amateur and professional MMA competitions and remained unbeaten here. Because of his profession as a doctor he could, due to the vocational requirements of the applied layer and ambulance service in the hospital with him, not continue his competition career and now devotes himself mainly to the dissemination and teaching of martial arts.
Influenced by his martial experience in full contact, he also studied in the field of Philippine martial arts amazed by the feasibility of the techniques learned in combat and sparring. The reputation of the Modern Arnis founder Remy A. Presas as an outstanding fighter motivated him, the militant roots - to explore Modern Arnis closer - rather designed for self-defense, martial arts and amateur sports. Since Remy Presas also was a student of Balintawak Self Defense Club, and he probably based on the stories - if he had to fight - regularly resorted to his learned skills and techniques in Balintawak, was the reason for Philipp Wolf, to deal more with this style . Since 2004, he took every opportunity to learn further details about this style and to train and was able to gain insight into various "lines" and training methods. This included training with GM Bobby Taboada, GM Bobby Tabimina, GM Tony Veek, GM Tonying Patalinguh, Master Dieter Roser, Master Joe Lohman and many others. In the years 2006 and 2007, he spent nearly three months in the Philippines by the Balintawak Eskrima and the Roots of Modern Arnis to learn "at the source" and to train. At that time he was training as a private student of GM Nicomedes "Nick" Elizar, who gave him the opportunity to train with many other masters and grandmasters of Balintawak Eskrima in Cebu. Additional training visits followed in the following years.
Since 2007 Master Philipp Wolf taught and spread the art of Eskrima Balintawak. Through its structured training courses have already been a
number of new training groups at home and abroad arise. Besides his work at the national level, he was able to teach Balintawak Eskrima in the United Kingdom, Poland, China and even directly in the Philippines.
